The iliopsoas muscle is thought to be the most core muscle of the body and it is key to stabilizing the lower spine. The psoas is a muscle closely involved in breathing, as it connects directly to the respiratory diaphragm. In this class, we lengthen, twist, and flex the psoas in order to create flexibility and space in the abdomen. By releasing strain or tension in the psoas muscle, we prepare the diaphragm for deep, smooth, and uninhibited breathing.
